Helping Children Deal With Today’s Life Pressures

Ellen-199x300So, what are the concerns parents and their children have today and what’s different from what previous generations faced?

That was one of the questions posed to Ellen Galinsky, author of Mind in the Making: The Seven Essential Life Skills Every Child Needs, when she was a guest on LA talk show host Lon Woodbury‘s program last week.

“Stresses are different today and in some ways much more pervasive,” Galinsky said in the interview. “We live in a very high-pressured, 24/7, always connected world. Pretty much everyone has too much to do and not enough time to do it.”

This impacts adults but also their children.

“We found 40% of kids feel very stressed, and 40% say their parents are very stressed,” she said.

How do you deal with this problem? Teaching children the key life skill of taking on challenges is one answer, maintained Galinsky.
